Art Car Weekend kicks off tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. at the Art Car Museum with an assist from neighboring Aurora Picture Show. Shop Talk! - Dynamic Art Car Presentations is FREE and open to the public! Part of Heights Boulevard will be closed to through traffic and art cars will be parked on the street for your viewing pleasure. The cars will have illuminary-like very special effects and such - like, say a disco ball, flame throwers and maybe some neon or something. Parade Judge LadyBee will be awarding two tickets to Burning Man to the artist whose car is deemed "best illuminated". Inside the Art Car Museum, various artists will be giving talks about art cars (the hows, whys and wherefores - answered!). The Aurora Picture Show will be screening vintage films both inside and outside, at the Museum, of prototype cars and experimental modes of transportation. Out on the street, live music will be provided by Clap Clap of Austin - 80's-style tunes for you to get your groove on. Roving street theater antics performances by Environmental Encroachment. The evening will be capped off by a fireworks display as 20 firecracker "hats" are set off, one for each year the Art Car Parade has been held.
Bottom Line: This is a free street party/festival/art car celebration, thinly disguised as a symposium, where you can bring the family for art car information, art car viewing, music, street antics, informational (and cool) films and fireworks. We encourage you to begin your weekend art car experience with this awesome event! There's much more to the Art Car Weekend experience than just the parade itself! Main Street Drag will bring the experience to over 30,000 children as the cars and artists travel Main, stopping at schools, community centers and hospitals on Friday morning, but the entire community has three events to chose from - or pick all three!! Shop Talk is FREE (our favorite word), family-oriented and fun so what are you waiting for?
