Houstonist Flickr Photo of the Day - Sabine River

Sabine River

Today’s Photo of the Day comes from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor phototainable.

Did you know, the Sabine River forms part of the boundary between Texas and Louisiana and back in the 19th century it formed part of the boundary between the U.S. and Mexico. The name Sabine comes from the Spanish word for cypress which grow along the lower parts of the river.

I've canoed down that river a couple of times in the past few years. It was fun, but kind of freaky at night -- you keep expecting to hear the banjos playing at any minute.

Phototainable has a show that will be opening at the Te House of Tea on Fairview starting tomorrow.
