Carlos Lee belted a walk-off home run in the 10th inning off Giants pitcher Jonathan Sanchez to give the Astros an amazing 6-5 come from behind victory Tuesday night. The comeback trail began in the eight inning as the Houston team was down 5-3 with two outs. With Carlos Lee on first, rookie sensation Hunter Pence stroked a high fly ball toward the left field Crawford Boxes just punching the foul pole to give the Astros a 5-5 tie that would eventually lead to Carlos Lee's dramatic finish.
Pence got the Astros rolling in the second inning as he lined a double down the left field line scoring Carlos Lee from first to give Houston a 1-0 lead. In the third inning, Astros pitcher Woody Williams, who was an All-American shortstop at the University of Houston, drove a Matt Morris offering into the Crawford Boxes for the 2-0 lead and his first home run as an Astro.
Lee, who led off the third inning, gave the Astros a 3-0 cushion as he belted a Crawford Box home run of his own. In the sixth inning, the Giants would tie the score on a solo shot from Randy Winn and a two-run bomb from Ray Durham. The Giants would take their first lead in the seventh inning as Randy Winn struck again knocking in Pedro Felix for a 4-3 lead. The Giants would score one more in the eighth inning before the Astros would begin their comeback win.
"It's great to come back," Lee stated. "You have the lead and they scored runs and knock you down. But you know what? This year is a different attitude here. You know, we never quit. We have a lot of wins that we have come from behind this year. It seems like we always find a way to fight back."
Notes: Carlos Lee and Hunter Pence combined for seven hits with five RBI and three home runs. The Astros are on a three game winning streak and are 8-4 in their last 12 games.
