Good morning, Houston. If you haven't gotten a speeding ticket in the city lately, consider yourself lucky — a lot of your fellow Houston drivers have. According to a report from the National Motorists Association, Houston is the third worst speed trap in the nation (up from fifth place last year). The ranking was based on the number of Houston-related posts to the NMA's Speed Trap Exchange — which, by the way, is definitely worth a read.
>> Suit seeks another Metro vote: Richmond Avenue business owner Daphne Scarborough has filed suit seeking to prevent Metro from building its new mass transit lines without a new election. Scarborough's lawyer, Andy Taylor, said Metro has broken the terms of the November 2003 transit referendum that was approved by voters, but Metro says the referendum gave the agency some latitude on the "scope, length of rail segments or lines and other details." The suit came after a judge denied Scarborough's lawyers' request to take oral testimony from Metro officials to see if there was a basis for a lawsuit, a move Metro called a "fishing expedition." Taylor promised to pursue the suit all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary.
>> The name of the game: The Memorial Hermann Healthcare System is suing Memorial Hermann Hospice Inc., a Missouri City business that shares the health care giant's name — but nothing else. The hospice, which has absolutely no connection with the real Memorial Hermann, opened in late 2005 and has been operating under the name Promed Home Health Services for a couple of months, secretary Pan Jones said. Even so, the hospice's official state-registered name is still Memorial Hermann — at least for now. Only a court order can change a business's name once it has been approved by the state.
>> Today's weather: Eh, more clouds, more chances of rain. Look for a 40 percent chance of showers through the afternoon, with a high around 84; tonight, the rain chance will decrease as temperatures drop into the upper 60s.
