Gas prices down across Texas

060107_gasprices.jpgFinally! After sixteen straight weeks of increases, gasoline prices have finally dropped across Texas. That's not to stay it still won't cost you $60 or $70 to fill up your gas-guzzling SUV though, because they've only dropped to an average of $3.05 in 11 Texas cities. On the bright side, that's three cents down from last week and still 14 cents below the national average.

Gas prices are still about a dollar higher than they were at the beginning of the 16-week increase (if only the Astros could streak like that!). The highest average price in the state is way up in Amarillo, $3.251, while the lowest is way down in Corpus Christi, $2.97. Houston falls somewhere in the middle at $3.016.

AAA spokeswoman Rose Rougeau said that "refinery production and gasoline inventories are up and that has helped to put downward pressure on pump prices." She still encouraged gasoline consumers to "conserve by paying attention to their driving behavior." Recent reports said that, despite increasing prices, most Americans have not cut back on driving. We know a lot of people commute to work or school and can't avoid driving, but there are ways to conserve gas even while you're using your car. The number one tip is to go the speed limit, which will also save you the couple hundred a ticket costs. You can also find the cheapest gas in your area by using houstongasprices.com.
