This week, we told you all about the upcoming opening of the much talked about Hotel ZaZa in the Museum District. Seems like the new hotel is on everyone's radar. Including New York Magazine.
This week, the popular entertainment and culture magazine's website (www.nymag.com) featured Houston as their Weekend Escape Destination, describing a stay at the "highly theatrical" Hotel ZaZa as a way to earn some street cred in the Bayou City. The article focuses on the emerging arts community, as well as suggestions for "An Oddball Day" in the city. We can't help but wonder if writer Tess Taylor had a peek at our favorite H-town documentary.
Other attractions named were Julia's Bistro, t'afia, the Menil, West End Bicycle, the Aurora Picture Show, and Domy Books.. Kudos to Taylor for actaully doing her homework (and not relying on CitySearch for travel advice). What, no NASA?
Thanks for noticing, NY. We're kinda fond of us, too.

Missed Connections: Gefilte Fish...and "Chain Connections"

Yep, not a bad article! I'm not sure what she means when she refers to the "newly renovated Memorial Park," though — maybe the Sabine to Bagby Promenade?
There isn't a section in this article that does not include Montrose. She may have done her homework... Just with someone who was extremely proud of Montrose. Not that this area should go unnoticed, better yet it SHOULD be highlighted. However, there is more to Houston than Montrose. I am not entirely offended as I live off Studemont. I just do not believe the article to be full rounded.
Actually, I thought just the opposite...that she did a good job of diversifying the neighborhoods. Hotel Zaza is in the Museum District, t'afia & Julia's are in Midtown, West End Bike Shop is in the Heights, Hotel Icon is Downtown, Hotel Derek is near the Galleria, she even mentioned Project Row Houses in the 3rd Ward. I loved the "Oddball Day" suggestions. Although, Montrose is mentioned a few more times, but rightfully so! :-) At least she didn't mention NASA!
