Ready for two month-long festivals of the arts? Who isn't? The month of June in darling Houston boasts both the Texas Music Festival 2007 and the Big Range Dance Festival, so get grroooovin.
The Texas Music Festival 2007 runs from May 29 through June 30 and offers quite a plethora of both performances and classes for those of you interested in catching some musical waves via orchestra, symphony, or solo. According to the Moores website:
The Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival was founded in 1990 to provide young professional musicians with a challenging musical environment in which to develop skills in orchestral, chamber music, and solo performance. The four-week orchestral fellowship program on the University of Houston campus is guided by distinguished artists from the Moores School of music faculty, members of the Houston Symphony, and internationally recognized guests. Some potential highlights of the TX Music Festival include flute and guitar institutes, as well as the Texas Music Festival Jazz Project, featuring vocalist Yvonne Washington.
...But we're not through yet. This month also offers The Big Range Dance Festival, June 1 through June 17. According to the Big Range website:
The Big Range Dance Festival (BRDF) seeks to foster quality dance-theater that explores diverse ideas and the fusion of theatrical arts. The Festival encourages choreographers to experiment in movement invention and the creation of a uniquely personal dance language, invoking the spirit of the modern and post-modern dance pioneers. BRDF seeks to engage the audience through new works that break boundaries, with a strong emphasis on the unique individual vision of the choreographer.Potential highlights include a "Dance Gathering" of 21 choreographers each featuring short works, as well as a "Buffy Award" presentation to the best Houston contemporary dance performing artists.
When's the last time you actively pursued the observation of artistic endeavors? Exactly.
