Folk Legend Bert Jansch, who has influenced artists from many genres, including Neil Young (who refers to him as the acoustical version of Jimi Hendrix), Devendra Banhart, Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Johnny Marr (The Smiths), Nick Drake, Beth Orton, Noel Gallagher (Oasis) and Mike Oldfield, will make a rare live appearance at the Orange Show. Infused with American folk, blues and Traditional British Isles music, his style is singularly unique and his song-writing very affecting. This will be the only Texas appearance he makes on this tour. We would almost venture to compare the opportunity to see Bert Jansch is this fabulous setting to seeing such music legends as The Who or The Rolling Stones - credited not only with musical genious and shaping the face of music as we know it, but also having amazing longevity. Yet, how do you compare something small and intimate with a seat in Section 600 in the Reliant Stadium? You really don't - one is personal, the other is kind of like watching ants on a stage! This is a very precious opportunity - don't let it slip past you. At a whopping cost of $20/ticket, we'd call that a bargain, the best you'll ever have. With a career spanning nearly five decades and a musical style credited with shaping the face of rock as we know it (yes, even influencing the style of The Beatles), this should be an amazing experience.
In 2006 Bert has been working with some of the latest musicians to emerge on the scene on his long awaited new album The Black Swan, including producer Noah Georgeson (Devendra Banhart - Cripple Crow, Joanna Newsom - Milk-Eyed Mender), and musicians and vocalists Devendra Banhart, Beth Orton, Otto Hauser (Espers, Vetiver), Helena Espvall (Espers), and Kevin Barker (Currituck Co.). In February 2006 Bert was involved in the major BBC TV series Folk Britannia, and appeared in the associated concerts at The Barbican in London. On May 14 Bert received a rapturous reception at the All Tomorrow's Parties festival where he shared a bill with Devendra Banhart, Vetiver, Espers, Jandek and others. Bert also features in a new book, Guitar Man (published by Bloomsbury March 20) a Nick Hornby style book about guitar playing. On 5 June 2006 Bert received the Mojo Merit Award from Mojo magazine at their Honours List ceremony. The award is “based around an expanded career that still continues to be inspirational” and was presented by Beth Orton and Roy Harper. In a live setting, Bert’s performances are still a rare opportunity to see one of the British music scene’s true legends play. His understated, low key approach eschews hollow show business routines, and the audience is treated to a guitar playing master class and an impressive catalogue of some of the most haunting songs in the British canon.
His performance at The Orange Show will be open, festival seating and there are really no "bad" places to be seated in this intimate amphitheater. If you have not seen a musical performance in this venue - you are missing a great experience. Special guest and local folk artist Jana Hunter will open the show. Jana has been receiving rave reviews for her new album "There's No Home".
