Astros trying fail to stand on rockie ground
There is no denying that the Astro’s have hit (what we hope is) their low this season. On Tuesday, both Lance Berkman and manager Phil Garner were ejected from the game after Carlos Lee was intentionally appeared to be hit by a pitch from the Colorado Rockies Manuel Corpas. Luckily the Astros managed a 2 run ninth inning rally to win that game and end a 10 game losing streak.
Now fast forward 24 hours to Wednesday night – The Astros are up 1 run in the bottom of the 7th inning when the Rockies Kazuo Matsui ties the game. Then on the following pitch a frustrated Woody Williams throws behind the Rockies Matt Holiday and is ejected by umpire CB Bucknor for hitting Holiday (although the evidence suggests that the ball never actually hit Holiday). The game went downhill from there with the Rockies scoring 4 runs in the remaining 7th inning. Final score Rockies 8 – Houston 7.
The Astros are currently trying to finish this series (hopefully with a win). At the time of this writing – Chad Qualls is pitching at the top of the 8th and the Astros are winning 6-4. Update: Dan Wheeler allowed 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth Astros lose 7-6.
Dynamo Debut Tonight on MLS Primetime
Riding the wave of Sunday’s win over FC Dallas, the Houston Dynamo will make their MLS primetime debut tonight on ESPN2 when they take on the Colorado Rapids at 8:30pm. Although the Dynamo dominated Colorado 3-1 back in May, tonight’s Dynamo lineup looks much different. Four of the Dynamo’s starting players are absent due to conflicts with national team play – Brian Ching & Ricardo Clark (US Men’s team), Dwayne De Rosario & Pat Onstad (Canadian Men’s team). While these absences will no doubt leave some holes in the team’s play strategy, it does provide an excellent opportunity for some younger players to step up (Stuart Holden and Zach Wells for example).
Tonight’s match is another critical game for the Dynamo as they try to put the losing streak behind them.
