So there's some surprising news out of northwest Houston: Police say a 35-year-old woman and her boyfriend sold the woman's teenage daughters into prostitution, and a relative said she believes it was done to support a drug habit. It happened at the Antoine Drive apartment complex where the woman — who KHOU identified as Nelsi Latuda — lived. Investigators said she sold her 14- and 16-year-old daughters for sex, and Channel 11 reports there are rumors that she even had business cards made.
Police found out about the situation when the 16-year-old girl called police after a fight with her mother. After that report, police say Latuda beat the girl, and a neighbor said she thinks she witnessed that beating: "She was beating up on her daughters," the neighbor told KTRK. "She punched her a few times in her face and then threw her on the floor." When police talked to the girls, they reportedly told officers that they had been with various men at the apartment on Antoine and at another apartment on Tidwell Road. "There was a lot of traffic of guys coming in and out of [the apartment]," a neighbor said of the place on Antoine.
Latuda and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Pedro Espinoza Escama have been charged with two counts of compelling prostitution and are scheduled to appear in court later this week.
