It's hard for us to pass up the thought of living on North or South boulevards — even the relatively downmarket end of the street — so we're understandably excited about this South Boulevard manse, a traditional half-timbered design from 1935.

The house has a lot of room — or a lot of rooms, anyway — with five bedrooms spread over more than 4,500 square feet. One of those bedrooms (with a full bath) is downstairs, making for a nice guest suite, and there's 1/1 garage apartment over the three-car garage in the back of the house as well. All the rooms are big and flooded with light, including the totally updated kitchen, which has an island that looks roughly the size of Galveston. A set of glass doors leads from the family room to the nice back yard; upstairs, the big master bedroom includes a big master bath with a big, marble-enclosed tub and his-and-hers countertops — on opposite sides of the room. What seems to be the "his" counter is sort of wedged in between the wall and the tub, but whatever — we know our place.

Our only complaint about this house is that the extensive remodeling it just went though — down to the studs, the best renovation of a mid-1930s home the Realtor said he's ever seen — seems to have removed nearly any trace of '30s charm from the interior. But, y'know, it's South Boulevard. We'd survive. Bedrooms: five. Bathrooms: five and a half. Square feet: 4,583. Price: $1,295,000.
