Houston World Affairs Council: Young Professionals Group Hosts International Celebration
Ok, so we got your attention. Bono WON'T be in town tonight, however the Young Professionals Group of the Houston World Affairs Council WILL be sampling beverages used in celebratory toasts across the globe. And we think Bono would support that. (so sue us. no, really, don't.)
Did you know, In Korea, the beverage Soju is made from rice and was first distilled around A.D. 1300 during the Mongol occupation? (Uh Sake Bombs anyone?!) The history of Greece's Ouzo is vague but its precursor is tsipouro, a drink distilled throughout the Byzantine and continued into the Ottoman Empires.
In honor of We Love Vodka Russian National Day this month, a Russian cosmonaut who is currently working at NASA has been invited to attend and discuss the importance of vodka in Russia. This is an opportunity to explore the significance of drinks in the social setting and the history of the cultural toast tradition. (um, and to drinks lots of vodka. yum.)
Casual attire. Heavy appetizers will be served to compliment the beverages. Ample parking is available adjacent to the building and across the street.
