The road to 3,000 continued at Minute Maid Park, Texas as Craig Biggio came into Thursday night's contest only three hits away. In the third inning while facing Aaron Cook with a 2-2 count, Biggio lined a single into center field for career hit 2,998.

Biggio would return to the plate in the fifth inning and would smack an Aaron Cook curve ball to Rockies third baseman Garrett Atkins, who then overthrew first baseman Todd Helton. After review by the official scorer, Biggio was credited with his 2,999th hit.

As fate would have it, the guy who wore number seven would come up in the seventh inning with a date with history. After watching two Aaron Cook pitches out of the zone, Biggio was locked and ready on a 2-0 count. With Brad Ausmus on second, Biggio drilled Aaron Cook's offering to former Astros center fielder Willy Taveras for the historic hit and tying the game at 1-1. Biggio, going for his patented double, was gunned down at second by Taveras to end the inning. Despite that fact, the entire Astros team rushed out onto the field to join in on Biggio's accomplishment.

Biggio's night wasn't complete yet. In the ninth inning with the scored tied at 4-4, Biggio singled into right field for hit 3,001 and moving him past Roberto Clemente for 26th all-time. The Rockies would take the lead 5-4 in the top of the 11th inning to set up for a night to remember. After the first two Astros batters were retired, Craig Biggio came up with two outs and legged out and infield hit to the shortstop for career hit 3,002 which set-up Carlos Lee's dramatic walk-off grand slam and 8-5 Astros victory.

Biggio Fact of the Day: Biggio has reached base 1,435 times without getting a hit. That's 1,152 bases on balls and 283 hit by pitches.

3,000 Hit Club Fact of the Day: On August 4, 1985, Rod Carew of the California Angels became the first hispanic player with 3,000 career hits.
