Home of TX Supreme Court justice, 2 others damaged

062907_medina.jpgA fire in far north Houston that damaged the homes of three families, including that of Texas Supreme Court Justice David Medina, also injured four firefighters late last night. Fire investigator Nathan Green told reporters that the fire started in the justice's garage.

Justice Medina was in Austin, but his wife and son were at home when the fire started, but they escaped unharmed. However, the blaze destroyed their garage (which is detached from the house) and a vehicle in their driveway, as well as causing major damage to one other home and more minor damages to a third. The residents of the second home are also reported to have gotten out safely. Nathan Green also reported that one firefighter sprained his wrist, another was treated for smoke inhalation, and another suffered heat exhaustion. He did not have details on injuries to the fourth firefighter, but none suffered major injuries. KHOU reports that all four suffered from smoke inhalation. Medina's neighbors said that they heard an explosion in the garage, then saw flames. They called 911, but said that no one answered their calls.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but foul play is not suspected.
