Found on YouTube: Morrissey at the Record Rack 1992

The year was 1992 and Morrissey was probably on tour for his album Your Arsenal when he made a stop at a little independent music store for an autograph session. The now defunct Record Rack formerly at Shepherd and West Alabama was the site for this pandemonium. Fans camped for hours in the sweltering July heat for a chance to see their idol. Some were so overcome with emotion they could barely conduct an interview, like the guy at about 5:20 into the video. The video is about seven and a half minutes and culls news stories from local TV stations. It also has an annoying "trial version" watermark throughout but is a great flashback nonetheless.

I showed Christi Myers this YouTube clip about a year ago. She is the reporter doing the story. She said it was a crazy time there.

I'm not sure the TV stations would do a story like this today.

I Remember Morrissey's visit when I was living in Houston .
I like the reporter that got the song title wrong -
but my fave then and now is the clueless Blonde in the last minute & a half that thinks "Girlfriend In A Coma"is about Morrissey's girlfriend being in a coma!
Wake up- he's GAY for crying out loud!
Girlfriend-YOU in a coma!!!

I remember seeing this coverage on the news when it happened. All of the anchors (as you can see) were like "Who is Morrissey?"

Today, I can't think of one non-mainstream artist that would garner this much attention and have over 500 people lined-up to meet him or her, and crying after they met them.
