Local tech news in a compact, digital format.

After a bit of a hiatus, The Tech Buzz is back. It's not new or improved, just back.

iPhone Madness
We're not going go too in-depth with the iPhone as it has been covered by just about every major media outlet in the U.S. this past week. What we are going to do is provide you with this link to two local geeks and their reports on the new device. First up is our favorite Houston geek, Dwight Silverman and his first look at the new phone. We'd also like to share with you Mike McGuff's review.

Programmer Turned Brothel Owner Convicted
Jeff Yu-Kuang Lin was recently sentenced to 10 days in jail, 250 hours of community service and ordered to get a legal job after he was convicted of running a brothel because he, "wanted to experience something different." Well, now he can experience something really different, jail.

Spybot Search & Destroy 1.5 (Beta)
Grand Stream Dreams has a first look at everyone's favorite spyware killer, Spybot Search & Destroy 1.5 (Beta). The site goes in-depth in reviewing this app. Happy reading and happy destroying! If you are experiencing spyware, malware or adware problems Houstonist recommends checking out this white page from the folks at Technology Bytes.

YippyKya Launch
Houston based YippyKya has launched a new social networking site that "provides people the opportunity to make money or get discovered." Make money? Please tell us more...

"YippyKya is a community-based website that provides an avenue for its members to socialize, become entrepreneurs, and "Get Discovered". YippyKya is an entirely new way of approaching how people utilize the internet that provides a superior, next-generation web 2.0 portal."

YippyKya is run by a group of thirty people, each in a specialized field. They had their launch party this past week, June 27th, at Rich's and it included yet to be discovered artists, fashion designers, DJ's, models, jewelry designers, cinematographers and many more.

Early Warning
This is your early warning that HAAUG is hosting their semi-annual swap meet later this month. July 21st to be exact. This swap meet will be held at the UH Hilton Hotel in the Shamrock Room from 9am - 2pm. Maybe the Shamrock Room will bring you luck and you can score that hot Apple Newton.
