Monday Movie Nights @ Domy Books Presents: The Monster Squad
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're sick of the freaking rain, too. Rethinking that job offer in Seattle? You could sit at home and complain about it (like us), or you can get out and, well, get indoors. Looking for indoor-friendly activities? (ok, dirty minds) Check out Domy Books each Monday night as they screen some cinematic jewels. Case in point: tonight's 1987 cult classicThe Monster Squad.
"You know who to call when you have ghosts but who do you call when you have monsters?
Taking its cues from classic Universal monster movies and the Little Rascals, The Monster Squad plays out like the horror film equivalent of the Goonies. Count Dracula, bent on world domination, recruits the help of his fellow monster kind, the wolf-man, Frankenstein's monster, the creature from the Black Lagoon, and the mummy. Drac plans to use arcane magic to bring evil to this world. Standing in opposition is a ragtag group of elementary school kids who spend their time waxing poetic about monster movies in a tree fort. The leader of the group uncovers the ancient diary of Dr. Van Helsing, Dracula's nemesis, which tells of Drac's evil plot and how to thwart his dastardly plans. Directed by Fred Dekker, who created the films House and Night of the Creeps, The Monster Squad also features makeup effects by the great Stan Winston."
There's no Domy Books in Seattle. See, you've already made a good choice.
