As you get ready to head out for your July 4th holiday, we thought you might like to have some tunes to play on the way. Houstonist contributors have put together a collection of songs that are currently on the most played list on our iPod. There is a variety, so you should find something you like (and if you're open-minded musically, you'll probably like them all).
This month, we have a couple of Houston natives on our iMix. Houstonian Jana Hunter recently played at the Orange Show, and with her recent burglary of her equipment, can probably benefit from having her tracks downloaded. We also have Million Year Dance, who won the "Best New Act" award at last year's Houston Press music awards. Forty years earlier, Archie Bell & the Drells put Houston on the R&B map with their hit "Tighten Up" (one of our favorite tunes to play on La Carafe's magnificent jukebox).
Tons of good, new music on July's iMix: including Scottish band The Fratellis, the latest (and catchiest) single from Australia's John Butler Trio, and a track from Ryan Adams' new album Easy Tiger (which was just released last week). For variety, we have some indie-pop from the U.K. (Sing-Sing), some American folk/rock (The Wood Brothers), a favorite from a band that has recently reunited (The Verve), and a lesser-known classic from the late 60's (The Moody Blues).
You can download the whole iMix, or if your picky, you can download individual tracks. Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!
