How Houston Celebrates Independence Day

No, it's not by driving as fast as we can around loop 610, but it does include city-wide celebrations, all hoping for the same thing: No rain.

Here are a few of the events we'll be checking out tomorrow. Where will you be? Tell us, maybe we'll ditch our plans and join you. But probably not.

Houston's Official 4th of July Celebration. Chevy presents a concert and Independence Day celebration at Houston's Eleanor Tinsley Park, featuring recording artist Montgomery Gentry and one of the largest fireworks displays in the United States. Other festivities include four stages of music that will keep toes tapping with the diverse musical sounds of today's America; including pop, Latino, jazz, adult contemporary, classic rock and rhythm & blues. Displays of military artifacts and vehicles including tanks and huey helicopters, voting booth demonstrations, the Printing Museum of History; Children will stay entertained with inflatables, rides and games; Adults enjoy browsing the FREEDOM MARKET where a variety of great food and beverage will complete the day of celebration, as well as enjoying the activities at the BUD ZONE and Bud Light Volleyball Tournament. Join the Houston Symphony for Target Summer Symphony Night, a FREE Summer concert series at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park. Seating on the lawn is open to the public and no tickets are required. Hear Tchaikovsky’s stirring 1812 Overture and favorite all-American tunes followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Held in Town Green Park on the banks of The Woodlands Waterway, the Red, Hot & Blue Festival, The Woodland’s single largest event, celebrates its 10th year this year. The 23-minute fireworks show, shot over The Woodlands Town Center, is the second largest in the Greater Houston region, second only to downtown Houston. The soundtrack for The Red, Hot & Blue Festival Fireworks is simulcast on Houston’s #1 radio station, Sunny 99.1. Entertainment during the celebration will include live music from local greats such Ezra Charles and The Works, inflatable bounce houses, face painting, a putt-putt golf course, rock-climbing walls, strolling performers and much more. Join Bayou Bend for a full afternoon of activities including an interactive demonstration about the American flag, a musical tribute focusing on the diversity of American heritage and the influence of African-American music, and a chance to sign an oversize replica of the Declaration of Independence. Reading of the Declaration of Independence: 3:15 p.m. Cake and refreshments served after the reading.
