With a holiday in the middle of the week, celebrations of the musical variety are happening all over the city. Houston’s official Independence Day celebration, the 2007 Chevy's Freedom Over Texas with Fireworks Presented by Shell (yes that is really the full name of it) takes place in Eleanor Tinsley Park from 4pm – 10pm with headliner Montgomery Gentry. However, if you are like us and don’t enjoy pushing your way through the expected 100,000 soggy people, not to worry there are plenty of other acts around town this week for your entertainment.
Later in the week one of Houstonist’s most commented – Clay Aiken performs with the Houston Symphony (we'll keep our opinions to ourselves this time). And on Sunday Matisyahu opens for 311 out at the Woodlands.

Thanks for keeping your opinions to yourself. Refreshing!
Don't need opinions...just the facts please.
It is so nice and refreshing yes to finally have someone in the media refrain from comments. After all many of us are thrilled. We all have different taste in music. Fine, thankfully i feel you made a great decision to keep your personal thoughts to yourself.
How clever you must think you are. You managed to get your snide little dig in by calling attention to the fact that you weren't going to comment. I suggest you interview members of The Houston Symphony after the concert, if you have the guts to do so. I'm sure their opinion of Clay Aiken will be vastly different from yours.
