Good morning, Houston. Did you happen to be in the West U. area last night? If so, maybe you noticed the train derailment in the area, which prompted the evacuation of a handful of houses and the closure of a section of Bissonnet Street. The derailment, which involved seven cars, happened on the Union Pacific line near the corner of Community and Judson; four of the cars were carrying wheat and lumber, and another had contained liquified propane gas (which is what caused the evacuation). Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
>> Local boy gets 200 stitches after dog bite: A 6-year-old Houston boy spent three hours in surgery and had at least 200 stitches on Sunday after a pit bull bit him two or three times in the face. "They stopped counting [stitches] at about 200," Brandon Palomo, the boy's father, told the Chronicle. The bite happened while the boy, Logan Palomo, was visiting his mother in northwest Harris County. Logan was reportedly playing with the dog, which belonged to a roommate of his mother's boyfriend, when he was bitten; though the wounds were bad, Brandon Palomo said Logan was lucky. "All these lacerations are around the eyes and nothing happened to the eyeballs," he said. Logan was in good condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital on Monday.
>> Postal clerk in hot water: Anthony Zuniga, a former post office clerk in Houston, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison Monday for stealing thousands of Netflix movies. The postal service was tipped off to Zuniga's thefts last year, when Netflix reported that a high number of DVDs were missing from the company's box at the downtown post office on Franklin. Postal inspectors put the staff under surveillance and watched Zuniga stealing 122 DVDs from the post office; later, they found another 8,000 stolen Netflix and Blockbuster movies at Zuniga's house. His 18-month sentence includes three years' probation and a $4,000 fine.
>> Old enough to know better?: A Southwest Airlines flight from Hobby Airport to St. Louis never made it off the ground Monday because an 85-year-old passenger reportedly made a bomb threat as the plane was pushing away from the gate. It's not clear exactly what the man said, but it was enough to make the pilot return to the gate and for all the passengers to be evacuated from the plane. The man was taken into custody, and officials searched the plane and found nothing. Passengers finally left for St. Louis about an hour later.
>> Today's weather: Looks like more rain ahead: There's a 70 percent chance today, and some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Look for an afternoon high around 85 and an overnight low of 74.
