At Whit's end?

071007_whitneycasey.jpgIf you haven't yet seen Whitney Casey's (of Great Day Houston and CNN fame) new weekly Chronicle column "Relationships with Whit," then, by most accounts, you're pretty lucky. We usually leave hating on the Chron to other local blogs, but we couldn't help but notice some of the snitty reactions to Casey's column. From James Campbell's About:Chron blog:

So the Chronicle has hired Whitney Casey to do a column on relationships? This is a woman who was married for less than a year, dumps guys for using the word `neat' or for never having heard of `My Space'. This woman sounds like she is quite a thinker and the perfect fit for an advice column. What's next, accounting tips from Jeff Skilling or maybe gun safety tips from Dick Cheney?

Gosh. Comments on her columns are sometimes even harsher. Yesterday, Campbell posted another blog entry with a comment about Casey:

Oh, Whitney Casey is so bad. Her columns are not even relationship advice; they're weird ruminations on a topic... Plus, why does she never cite last names in her quotes? To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if she makes them up. The quotes seem too perfect to me. I don't have a problem with anonymous sources in journalism, but for Sy Hersh not Whitney Casey.

Campbell followed up the comment only by saying "It is what it is," but in an email to that reader, he actually said, "I'm glad you're reading her... because I can't." Ouch. If she doesn't have the RR's support, we sure hope she hasn't invested too much in the domain name she bought.

So what say you, Houstonist readers? Do Casey's failed marriage and seeming unpopularity (not to mention poor punning skills - she used to write a column called "Whitticisms"?) mean "Relationships with Whit" should go? Or would you like to read more rule rewriting from the perky blonde?
