Mark your calendars for 600 sq mi

A few months ago, we announced our first-ever photo show, 600 sq mi: Photos from Houston. The idea was to give photographers, both professional and soon-to-be professional, a chance to show us (and you) what they see when they look at Houston. So we set things up with MSquared Gallery in the Heights, put out a call for entries and crossed our fingers.

Well, it turns out the response was even better than we expected: Dozens of photographers submitted more than 200 images, and our jurors worked long and hard to pare those down to the 60-odd photos that will appear in the show. Every image we saw was amazing — nothing less than we'd expect from our super talented pool of local photographers — and we think you'll love the images that'll hang on MSquared's walls later this summer. (One of them, Gwen Turner-Juarez's "Butterfly," is the image at the top of this post.)

So plan to stop by MSquared in September and see 600 sq mi. The photos will be up from Sept. 5 to Oct. 7, with the opening reception set for 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 — you're all invited, and we hope to see you there.

Congratulations to all the photographers whose work was chosen for the show — find their names after the jump.
