Burglar hits cashless jukebox overnight

071907_jukebox.jpgAh, how we love news of stupid criminals — but there's been woefully little of it lately. So thank goodness for the guy who broke into a jukebox early this morning, but didn't realize it was free and therefore contained no money at all.

It happened on West Road near the North Freeway at around 1:30 a.m., when someone smashed a glass door of a restaurant and went to the jukebox inside, apparently planning to get rich off change. When the burglar opened the jukebox up, he or she discovered it was free to customers — it never had any money inside — and, what's more, it was digital, so the burglar couldn't even take a bunch of CDs. According to KTRK, an alarm went off when the door was shattered; when police showed up, they found the place empty and only the door and jukebox damaged. We suppose that means the alarm kept the would-be thief from getting to something worthwhile — say, the cash register. That's sure to cause some embarrassment at the next criminals' convention.

Police said they have no suspects in the incident; anyone who might have information should call Crime Stoppers at 713.222.TIPS.
