Steve Francis is happy to be back with the Rockets after a turbulent split with the team three seasons ago. Houstonist remembers that it was around the time of Superbowl XXXVIII that he first butted heads with former coach Jeff Van Gundy. It wasn't long after that he was traded to Orlando along with Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato for Tracy McGrady. He spent some time in Orlando and New York only to end up back here in Houston today after signing a two year contract. The total value of the deal $5 million.
General manager of the Rockets, Daryl Moray said, "Both Yao and Tracy really helped with the recruiting process and are excited about our chance to win with the additions in the off-season."
Houstonist is excited too. For five seasons when Francis played for the Rockets he averaged around 19 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds. His numbers increased with the Magic but when he was traded to the Knicks his numbers wained due to knee problems. After a physical on Thursday, he should be cleared to play for the Rockets and it will be with renewed verve.
Houstonist is pumped that Francis is back but has read and heard mixed reviews. What do you think of the Francis deal? Tell us with your comments.
Oh, do you also think this could mean that Moochie is due for a comeback too?

Missed Connections: Gefilte Fish...and "Chain Connections"

Nice work, Groovehouse. I am stoked to have Stevie Franchise back. It will energize half assed fans like myself and hopefully add a dimension on the court that is missing.
Frankly, I'm stoked too. I agree with the added dimension comment and hope that he can still drive to the basket, something we are lacking. I may even have to plunk down some coin for a mini-pack of Rockets tickets!
I think we will be much better at the 1 this year after reacquiring Mike James and Steve. My only concern with Steve is that he NOT dribble out 23 seconds of the shot clock before heaving an ill-advised jumper like he used to so often us in the past. I still have nightmares about that...
Moochie! He's one of my favorites. Yao and Tracy are good, but Moochie and Steve had personality. Oh man, I remember that bus commercial from way back when. Glad to have Steve back!
I played NBA Courtside 2002 for countless hours last semester in my neighbor's dorm room, and Francis was my #1 man. That was a shitty video game, but endless fun.
I'm pumped.
