Daily-ist: Monday

We love when a band with critical-acclaim like Tokyo Police Club stops by the Bayou City. Sure, albeit on a Monday night, probably headed to or from Austin, but we are glad to have them nonetheless.

We caught TPC at a few festivals this year and every set we've seen has been stellar, even in the hot, hot heat of a 2:00pm set time at Cocahella, they still got the crowd going. The Canadian indie rock foursome have recently released a "non-album" single, a representation of the state of digital music. Previous EPs include A Lesson in Crime (2005) and this year's Smith EP, spawning the single "Nature of the Experiment." Hear it here.

Picking apart the average chord and creating something quite amazing – disjointed, high yet perfectly pitched erratic, verging on sci-fi guitar, cushioned with bumbling pillow fight-esque bass line, crashing open hi-hat and magical mystery tour of keyboard acrobatics – this is the sound of TPC.

Opening band: Ra Ra Riot
