Good morning, Houston. Time for the results of another sex study: This one, from two UT-Austin psychologists, looked at the reasons people have sex. No. 1 on the list, as you'd expect, was attraction — but there's more to it than that. Among the 237 reasons Cindy Meston and David Buss cataloged: "It seemed like good exercise." "The person was a good dancer." "To get rid of a headache." And perhaps most odd: "I wanted to give someone a sexually transmitted disease." Well, we guess there's no better way to achieve that goal, eh?
>> Four-alarm fire in downtown high rise: Firefighters were able to bring a three-alarm fire under control at Two Houston Center overnight; fortunately, no one was injured. The fire was reported on the 16th floor of the 40-story building around 7:30 p.m. and was extinguished within a couple of hours. It's not clear what caused the fire, but HFD District Chief Tommy Dowdy said the building's sprinkler system may have helped keep it from spreading. Though the blaze didn't get out of hand, Dowdy said three alarms were pulled because that's standard procedure for a fire in a skyscraper: "Even if you don't need all those people, you want them here," he told the Chronicle.
>> Woman's car shot on freeway: Sandy Hoelzer got a nasty surprise while driving along the Katy Freeway on Sunday: An unknown person shot one of her car's back windows out. "All of a sudden it was just a loud pop," Hoelzer told KPRC. "I turned around and my windows are shattered. That's scary enough, but Hoelzer's 9-year-old daughter would normally have been sitting just inches from where the bullet hit; she wasn't in the car Sunday afternoon. "I don't know if it's kids of what they're doing, but I mean, somebody could have seriously been injured or killed today," Hoelzer said. "It's very scary."
>> Today's weather: Looks like we could have a rainy afternoon: There's a 40 percent chance of thunderstorm today, mainly after 1 p.m. Expect a high around 92, with a low tonight near 76 (and a continuing chance of rain).
