Houston's hometown hero (and shoulda, woulda, coulda been Texan) Vince Young popped up on the NFL wire for being caught in an altercation during yesterday's training camp practice. The build up to the showdown occurred at Baptist Sports Park in Nashville, TN when S Donnie Nickey knocked down WR Joel Filani after the wideout ran the wrong route. Trainers were forced to assist Filani, and on the subsequent play Nickey threw WR Courtney Roby to the ground after grabbing his neck. Having seen enough Young walked towards Nickey and began to yell as Roby continued to lay on the ground. Nickey placed his right hand on Young's chest and the former Texas Longhorn swung at the safety. Teammates intervened and ceased the melee within seconds. Head coach Jeff Fisher met with the team immediately afterwards to address the issue. At the end of practice Nickey and Roby shared a hug, as did Young and Nickey.
After practice Fisher addressed the media with Young, Nickey and Roby. Doing his best late night monologue impersonation, Fisher exclaimed, "My preference is not to see my quarterback throwing punches with his throwing hand..."
Ba-dum-bum
And in what might be the quote of the year, Nickey apologized for the incident but defended his actions by stating, "Someone comes at me, I'm not going to back down. I don't care if it's Vince, President Bush. That's just instincts that come out..."
Ya hear that Jeb?
A quarterback sticking up for his teammates. Vince Young truly is the word leader personified. Maybe Mario Williams can take some time away from racing his Lamborghinis and making it rain at night clubs to display some of the same characteristics.
