Last night, Warehouse Live played host to the annual Houston Press Music Awards. Houstonist was there to absorb all of the entertainment and was treated to some of the best local music around.
The Dimes (pictured above) walked away as big winners, with three awards – Best New Act, Best Indie Rock, and Song of the Year, for “Delilah,” which they performed on stage midway through the night. Other performers included Million Year Dance (who won Album of the Year for Liberation), The Black Math Experiment (who played their nominated and now semi-famous song “You Cannot Kill David Arquette”), Arthur Yoria, and The Scattered Pages.
Scheduled performers aside, ‘Lil Joe Washington stole the show with his acceptance speech for Best Blues artist. He hopped onto the stage, thanked the crowd (we think), jammed on the drums for a while, then took over the mic stand again for another ten minutes, reminding everyone that “I’m not done yet!”
Other multiple winners included Devin the Dude (Songwriter of the Year and Local Musician of the Year) and Katie Stuckey (Best Folk/Acoustic Artist and Female Vocalist of the Year). Here are a few more winners – check out the Houston Press for a full list:
