Compaq Gets A New Logo
Houston based Compaq unveiled a new logo for the company at a technology conference in India. HP/Compaq has modernized the font and given the trademark Compaq Q a weird new look. Houstonist is still on the fence about this logo. Dwight Silverman over at The Chron covered this story in a Tech Blog post and you can see the graphics he used here.

HAAUG's August Meeting

HAAUG is bringing in Rusty Little from Alsoft for their August meeting. Head down to the Rice University Media Center for this meeting. Not a member? You can join here.

Check Out Houston on Google's Street View
As we mentioned earlier this week, Google's Street View now includes Houston. Apparently Houston is carless. Go check out some of the views of Houston and you'll notice that we appear to be a ghost town. Thanks for making Houston look like a scene from a zombie movie, Google.

Chronicle Tech News
The Houston Chronicle leads the way in Houston technology reporting. It's as simple as that. No other site has better local tech coverage. abc13.com does come in second by a long shot thanks to Mike McGuff egging them on to cover more tech news. Here's to the Chronicle for always being able to provide us with Houston based tech stories.

Jay Lee discusses how to view websites offline. The Sci Guy takes comments on possible damage on the shuttle Endeavour. Dwight tells you why you may not need the fastest computer on the block. This doesn't apply to Houstonist as we don't care why we don't need the fastest computer, we just want the fastest computer. Dr. Mac plays around with LaunchBar for the Mac. GeekSpeak with Barret Canon writes about a Linux event at HLUG.

Looks to me like Compaq left their logo out in the sun this past weekend, and lost the perkiness of their old Q.
