Day of the Dead starts early at Lawndale Art Center

diadelosmuertos_prep.jpgIn honor of the upcoming Dia de los Muertos (in November, yes) the Lawndale Art Center is giving out retablo tins for area artists to decorate for a silent auction benefiting Lawndale programs.

Retablos are small traditional Mexican paintings of saints and religious imagery, although we've seen punk rock, KISS and Paul Frank retablos in our day as well. Wannabe retablo artists need only pick swing by Lawndale (4912 Main St.) and grab one for their very own. Yup, it's free but you have to return it nice and pretty by October 12th.

If you happen to be looking for an altar to bid on at the October 26th Lawdale auction party, look no further than the purple glasses. The Marvin Zindler retablo will be ours. You can thank us while we wait for fajitas and sugar skulls.
