Lawndale Opening Exhibit x 3
What's better than a Thursday night opening at Lawndale? Try 3. Saw that one coming, huh? Hey, it's been a long week, we're spent.
Tonight, Lawndale Art Center presents exhibitions in three galleries, all opening August 30, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm, with artist talks at beginning at 6 pm.
The exhibitions continue until October 6, 2007.
In the John M. O’Quinn Gallery will be, Round Up, an installation by Kurt Mueller and Jamie Wentz that encourages visitors to perform as cowboys in a Hollywood Western style film.
On Friday, August 31 &, Saturday, September 1 and again on Friday, September 14 and Saturday September 15, the artists will be on hand to videotape viewers who are willing to interact with the western set and props that the artists will leave on view. Those recorded sessions will then be edited and projected onto the gallery for the remainder of the exhibition.
House Painting, an installation in the Mezzanine Gallery by Erin Curtis, will take the viewer through a disorienting domestic interior with life-size paintings of rooms and claustrophobic wallpapered hallways.
In the Grace R. Cavnar Gallery, Emily Sloan deconstructs language by reconstructing words and their meanings for the installation SOS.
New Work from Carl Suddath will also be on view in the Mary E. Bawden Sculpture Garden.
