In our Retailist weekly feature, we share local places to satiate your shopping needs and feed your consumerist tendencies. Have a great place for us to get addicted to? Email us and let us know!
Oolala Gifts (833 Studewood) is the kind of happy-place that makes you want to celebrate obscure holidays, if only for extra excuses to s.h.o.p. We file Oolala in with our favorite Heights shops - as it has the funky little boutique vibe that keeps us feeling hip, eclectic wares that hit the sweet spot and prices that are way normal-people-salary friendly.
Stocked largely by Houston-area artists, ceramicists and designers you can leave feeling warm and fuzzy that you are supporting your local art community... uhm, and that you got some sweet schwag to take home with you.

Dorie Kerr's stunning silver and precious stone jewelry designs and Elizabeth Chamber's 'The Mud Factory' ceramic jewelry and pottery
The damage:
You'll survive!! Jewelry starts at around $20 (with more upscale items available) and a great gift will set you back around $35 (think jewelry, soap and handmade card)
With everything from soap to purses to clothing to baby stuff to shiny finger baubles (yes, also known as 'rings'), this is one of the ultimate H-Town spots to do your gift and 'because I'm worth it dammit' shopping. If you're feeling literary-like, used bookstore Kaboom (originally of New Orleans) is attached to the shop for further perusing and purchasing.
When you visit, give yourself at least an hour to look around and prepare to practice extreme self-restraint. The shop changes daily (literally), so if you haven't been for a few weeks then you've got a completely new store to re-discover. It's cool like that... especially if you are as borderline ADD as we are.
