Houstonist's 'Heart of Gold' is a regular feature that gives a little love to the people that make a difference. Yes, we randomly get that touchy-feely. So sue us. And share your ideas with us too!
AIR Houston (which stands for Accessibility Internet Rally) is an annual event that makes the online world an easier place to compulsively visit. It's run by Austin-based Knowbility, a group that provides Web development consulting and training to help those with disabilities get their Internet fix.
The idea is simple: Organizations with appropriate non-profit status enter AIR to have an accessible Web site designed for them. Local Web developers go to training and team up to wage a bloody 8-hour Web site-creating battle for the organizations. The best teams are given trophies, the less best are sent home crying.
Interested in building a Web site for a good cause? Or belong to a non profit that needs a pretty new online face? You can still register online here to participate and help keep the interwebs a friendly and accessible place (and kick some accessible ass).
