Houston commemorates 9/11

We wouldn't go quite so far as to say that every day is an anniversary of 9/11, but there are several events happening around the city today to remember 9/11 and its victims. So hit them up, whether you're a firefighter, a civilian, or a troofer.

>> Houston Fire Museum dedicates new statue: The Houston Fire Museum will dedicate a new statue titled "In the Line of Fire" to honor firefighters everywhere. The sculpture will be located at 2300 Main St., and also serves to support public art in Houston and contribute to downtown's revitalization. The statue was sculpted by Texas State Sculptor Edd Hayes. The mayor will be speaking at the dedication and light refreshments will be available. >> 9/11 Truth events: We don't want to call these people crazy, but, well, you know. Houston 9/11 Truth will be at it again today. First, they'll petition City Council to sign Impeachment Resolutions against Bush/Cheney at today's City Council meeting. Then, they'll continue the freeway blogging we've all come to recognize on the 59 bridges at 4:30. At 6:30, there will be a Truth Action Street Event outside the Wortham Theater. The event honors firefighters who died during 9/11 and their families and also draws attention to health concerns of those "first responders" who were present at 9/11. And finally, at 7:30 there will be a presentation by Don Paul (not to be confused with Ron Paul) at the Havens Center on W. Alabama. For more information, Houston 9/11 Truth Events.

>> Firefighters Foundation of Houston Gala: The FFFH was established last September and is Houston's only non-profit that provides non-governmental funding to Houston's fire fighters. They will be holding their Second Annual Firefighters Gala this evening at the Wortham Theater. Honorary Chairs will be Mayor White and his wife Andrea. The Truth Action Street Event corresponds to this event.
