Maker Faire holds Houston DIY auditions

makerfaire.jpg Calling all crafters, inventors, gearheads and crazy creatives - the ever-amusing Maker Faire wants YOU to show off your best projects, inventions and designs at Sunday's Maker Faire audition at the Houston Children's Museum (1500 Binz St).

Confused? Maker Faire is:
A two-day, family-friendly event that celebrates arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset. It's for creative, resourceful folks who like to tinker and love to make things. We call them Makers.

So basically, it's a happy sunshine place that celebrates DIY fashion, knitted cupcakes, LED-lit Tron bikes, handmade jewelry and pretty much anything else you could possibly dream up.

Kind of like Burning Man, except sans the acid trip, out of the desert, not nearly as much nudity and... well okay, maybe not quite Burning Man at all - but you catch our drift. Creativity and randomness abound.

The actual (closest) Maker Faire will be held in Austin October 20 - 21 at the Travis County Fairgrounds. Tickets are on sale now, as are campground passes for those who are not allergic to unairconditioned accomodations (like we are).
