Tonight at Wortham Center, the Progressive Forum Houston presents pioneer of the modern feminsit movement, Gloria Steinem, in a program that urges audiences to reconstruct their understanding of gender roles to foster a national spirit of cooperation for advancing of the rights of all citizens, especially our children.

Gloria Steinem's philosophy and fight for equal rights for women transformed America, creating a social acceptance among women to win collective and individual victories at work and at home. Her philosophy is borderless, and she joins with forces trying to restore equal freedoms to women in Afghanistan. "Remember," says Ms. Steinem, "that women in Afghanistan had equal rights in the Constitution of the '60s and were doctors, lawyers, and teachers."

Ms. Steinem believes that any successful restoration of Afghani society involves restoration of the rights of Afghani women including the right to be educated, to work, and to be safely protected under civil law.

The program will take place tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Wortham Center, Brown Theater. Private patron reception with the speaker at 6:15 in the green room. Book signing after the program in the grand foyer. Books will be on sale throughout the evening by Brazos Bookstore.
