Injured Port Arthur NFL Player Back In Houston For Rehab

0913007-everett.jpgKevin Everett may soon be a walking miracle. Just weeks after a brutal on-field collision almost killed him, and his doctors were convinced he would be a paraplegic, Everett was moved today from a Buffalo-area hospital to a rehab facility affiliated with Memorial Hermann Hospital. The goal: to have him walking within the next several weeks.

A quick response by the Buffalo Bills' team doctor is credited with giving Everett the fighting chance he has today; almost immediately after his injury, his spinal column was injected with ice-cold saline solution in an attempt to curb swelling until surgeons could address the injury. This experimental procedure is just beginning to prove its worth, and if Everett is able to make a full recovery, it will be a great victory for him and for emergency treatment of spinal injuries.

Everett will be closer to his family in Port Arthur by transferring to Houston. His mother, Patricia Dugas, had been at his bedside in Buffalo since the injury occurred on September 9th. The rest of his family will be able to encourage and support him over the next couple of weeks as he starts this new stage of his recovery.
