Live Comedy Calendar

Houston is very under-rated compared to a lot of cities, however when it comes to live stand-up comedy we get some of the best acts around. In this new Houstonist feature we hope to provide some insight to great live comedy (and 2 drink minimums) around town.

This week’s acts include:

Stand Up for Peace at Fitzgeralds [9/21]. Local Houston comedians take the stage for a ‘Comic Relief’ about the situation in Iraq. Comedy Performances include: James Ladmirault, James A. Huggins, Eddie Cruz, Robert L. Mungle, and John Farneti

Damon Wayans at The Improv [9/21 – 9/23]. This show will not likely be the watered-down version of Damon that you see on My Wife and Kids, instead you should expect something similar to his latest sketch comedy show, The Undergroud, where no topic is off-limits. Damon has been doing stand-up since 1982 and we will always know him for the hilarious Homey D. Clown on In Living Color.

Doug Stanhope at Walter’s on Washington [9/22]. We saw Doug last time he was in town and while his comedy is not for the easily offended, we think he is part genius (and part drunk). Doug was preparing to announce his run for President in 2008, when the FEC decided to chocolate rain on his parade. This show is one night only so catch him while you can.

Much more comedy after the jump…

Greg Behrendt at The Laff Stop [9/21 – 9/22]. Greg is part of the alternative comedy scene – whatever that means. He has written several best-selling books including, It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken – a self-help guide on how to break-up in a relationship. You also may have seen Greg in his Comedy Central special, Uncool.

Dobie Maxwell at The Laff Spot (Willowbrook) [9/21 – 9/23]. Dobie aka “Mr. Lucky” is from Chicago and has been performing standup since 1985. If you are down on your luck, it is nothing compared to Dobie’s life, but we will let him tell you that story.

Jeff Burghart at The Comedy Showcase (I-45 S) [9/21 – 9/23]. Jeff is a master impressionist and has been seen on Comedy Central.

Regular Houston Comedy Troupes:

Comedy Sportz: Improv comedy played as a sport. This is clean comedy for all ages.

Radio Music Theater: Houston Satire. The current show is entitled Rough Night at the Remo Room
