It's baaaaack. We can't believe it's been nearly six months since the last installment of the MFA's kick arse series, "Movies Houstonians Love." How the heck did we cope for this long with out it? Must be those doses of Mixed Media that held us over.
Tonight marks the return of a new slew of presentations of some of Houston's own professing their love for their favorite flix.
This series includes flick pix from the Houston Ballet Principal Ballerinia, Lauren Anderson; M.D. Anderson Professor Emeritus, Dr. John Lienhard, and kicks things off tonight with Mike Feinberg's presentation of Gattaca, directed by Andrew Niccol.
In a future where genetically engineered humans—called "valids"—are considered superior, a naturally born "in-valid" (Ethan Hawke) assumes the identity of a disabled "valid" (Jude Law) in order to pursue a lifelong dream of space travel. Alan Arkin, Uma Thurman, and Gore Vidal costar.
Mike Feinberg is cofounder of the KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) Foundation and the superintendent of KIPP Houston, has been instrumental in establishing a network of 58 high-performing schools around the nation. Comprising six middle schools, two early childhood and elementary schools, and a high school, KIPP has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, CBS´s 60 Minutes, and ABC´s World News Tonight, as well as in the New York Times, Houston Chronicle, and the Washington Post newspapers.
