Texans Lose Against Colts And Possibly More

240908_schaub.jpgLike a scene from the movie 300, the Houston Texans players have been dropping like flies. Injuries are starting to take a toll on the Texans who couldn’t make it three in a row to start the season and no longer share first place in the division after losing 30 to 24 to the Indianapolis Colts Sunday. Jerome Mathis returned the opening kickoff 84 yards to start the game with the lead, but the Texans defense quickly gave it up soon thereafter.

Not only did the Texans loose the game, but we have no idea how long this loss will effect the Texans’ hope of making it a 3-1 start to the season next Sunday. Probowl receiver Andre Johnson did not play against the Colts, but he is still questionable for next Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Ron Dayne, who set a career high for rushing last season against the Colts, was inactive because of bruised ribs. That left Ahman Green with the opportunity to eat up yards, but he quickly left during the Texans first possession in the second quarter. After losing the number one and two running backs, we weren’t surprised to see the Texans were only held to 40 yards rushing.

On top of the aforementioned injuries, the hometown team lost rookie Jacoby Jones, reportedly for three weeks, in the third quarter with a separated who was moved to the number one slot after Johnson was not able to play. The fourth quarter wasn’t any better since center Steve McKinney was ousted from the game with a knee sprain and will likely be out for the season with an ACL tear. But all of these injuries pale in comparison to defensive tackle Cedric Killings having to be taken off the field on a stretcher in front of a silent Reliant Stadium crowd after he had a headfirst collision with an Indianapolis receiver during a kickoff return. Killings was soon taken to a hospital and at the moment does have movement in his extremities.

We have no clue as to whether any of these players will be available for the next game with the Falcons, but don’t fear Texans fans -- Atlanta is 0-3 so far this season and will probably be beaten by the Texans practice squad. Matt Schaub -- remember, you’re one of us now. People be sure to thank GM Rick Smith for fleecing the Falcons this last off season.
