Fashionistas, don't feel bad, this one kinda snuck up on us, too. And so glad it did. Earlier this year, after attending an event at Chloe Dao's Rice Village boutique, Lot 8, we made our way over to Mi Luna for some yummy tapas. As if that wasn't delish enough, on the way, we stumbled across a window front display that ripped us off the sidewalk and into this cute boutique.
Let's be honest, Rice Village isn't lacking boutiques. Pretty much the most concentrated area in town, for the specialized shoppers, but what caught our eye this early evening was the incredible mid-century vintage furniture displays, mixed among the clothing. Being a big fan of the winged back chair, we had to investigate.
Langford Market (2417 University) --not the hamburgers, that's LanKford, but it did make us hungry-- gets it right. And when we say right, we mean damn right. With a vast array of women's clothing, accessories, vintage furniture, candles, intimates, and even baroque-styled lighting, we were happy to see a local outfit offering more unique finds than, well, um, that "other outfitter" a few doors down.
Since that first illuminating night, we've made Langford a standard on our shopping jaunts into Rice Village. Heck, even going to the Village just for Langford, happy hour usually follows, of course.
Looking for a well-fitting, stylish, casual dress? Please look no further. It's here. And our closets bare witness. Dresses are reasonably priced from $65-$90. Tops start at $35, and earrings, aka our current obsession, begin at only $12.
Scattered among the clothing are some of the most unique and functional pieces of art and furniture, lighting and lamps, that we've seen in town. All of the art on the walls, and lighting, are all for sale. The homey feeling makes us want to stay for hours, and we often do. Until they start getting creeped out by us hanging around, oogling over the furniture.
Vintage display cases hold cook and glassware from the 50's and 60's, and an antique armoire houses pretty, lacey unmentionables, definitely worth mentioning.
Langford Market is a member of the American Apparel Concepts family of stores. Not the American Apparel you're thinking of. Other AAC stores include Wish (1614 Westheimer), DuO (1665 Westheimer), and Method (2437 University). We've visited them all, but Langford still ranks numero uno with us.
We've recently heard that a second location will be opening on 19th street in the the Heights. Location, location, location! We're stoked.
SALE: On Thursday, October 11th, Langford Market will be offering 25% off all items (excluding furniture) celebrating their new fall fashions with a reception from 5-9pm. What a great reason to check it out. As if we needed one.

Missed Connections: Gefilte Fish...and "Chain Connections"

This is one of my new favorite stores in the Village as well. And how perfectly timed their sale is. I guess it's their birthday present to me.
