Many bands had to change their names to avoid legal problems with existing bands with the same name. Most find new names or add a modifier, like “U.K.” to distinguish themselves from the other similar named band from another country. Chicago’s The Academy Is… (formerly, The Academy) decided to add a verb and ellipsis. After all, they consider themselves an indie/punk/rock band, they must keep you guessing.
The Academy Is…, who first received recognition when opening for emo darlings Fall Out Boy, is now headlining the Sleeping With Giants tour. They bring the show to Warehouse Live on Wednesday (October 3rd). The lineup also includes Armor for Sleep, The Rocket Summer, and Sherwood.
We’re giving you a chance to pick up a pair of tickets to the show. All you have to do is send an e-mail with your name and phone number to contest (at) houstonist (dot) com. The contest ends tomorrow at 5 p.m. We’ll contact the winner over the weekend.
Good luck!
