Houstonist iMix: October

Today, we are officially in the last quarter of the year. It’s hard to believe it’s already October (especially with this weather), but it is, which means it’s time for another installment of the Houstonist iMix!

Our picks for the month include a few new artists, including Illinois, White Rabbits and Coconut Records (which is actually a new moniker for Rushmore actor and Phantom Planet leader Jason Schwartzman); and tunes off the latest Go! Team, Son Volt and Over The Rhine records. We also threw in some earlier favorites from Andrew Bird, Ray LaMontagne, and Neko Case (plus, we threw in her band The New Pornographers – yes, we have a thing for Neko). We figured that it’d be best to throw in a classic, too (Van Morrison). To wrap up the iMix, we included some whoopee-making music, courtesy of one of our favorite cable shows/bands, Flight of the Conchords.

A reminder on how it works: Houstonist contributors submitted a song or two that they can’t get enough of right now. Then, we threw our tracks together and created our own iMix on iTunes. So, if you have iTunes on your computer, you can now download our iMix, or, if you’re afraid of commitment, you can download the tracks individually.

Let us know what you think, and tell us what's currently in high rotation on your iPod.

Oh, and don't forget, you have one day left to submit your application to be a music contributor for Houstonist. More details here.
