Giving Houstonians a chance to hear tomorrow’s great writers today.

The Inprint Studio Series, presented by Inprint in association with the University of Houston Creative Writing Program and Diverseworks, features some of the best young writers in the country, as well as alumni from the University of Houston Creative Writing Program and leading local authors. Now in its second season, the 2007-2008 Inprint Studio Series, tonight, welcomes Maurice Manning and Emily Fox Gordon.


Acclaimed poet Maurice Manning's (pictured) third book of poetry, Bucolics , has just been published by Harcourt. His second book, A Companion for Owls, is written inthe voice of Daniel Boone, and was published in 2004. His first book, Lawrence Booth's Book of Visions, was selected for the 2000 Yale Series of Younger Poets.

His poems have appeared in Shenandoah, The Southern Review, The Virginia Quarterly Review, Gulf Coast, Poetry, and The New Yorker. He has held writing fellowships at The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and The Hawthornden International Retreat for Writers in Scotland. He teaches at Indiana University and in the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College.

Celebrated Houston essayist/memoirist Emily Fox Gordon is author of Mockingbird Years: A Life in and out of Therapy and Are You Happy?

Mockingbird Years, a memoir which is also a critique of psychotherapy, was named a New York Times Notable Book and was chosen as one of Amazon.com's top ten memoirs for the year. Mark Doty calls Are You Happy? "a scrupulously drawn map to a lost world."

She has published essays in Boulevard, Salmagundi, and The American Scholar, among other magazines. Her work has won two Pushcart Prizes and has been frequently short-listed in Best American Essays.
