Flick: Drained

20071010_drained.jpgHoustonist digs foreign comedy films because we don't always get all the jokes and sometimes that is more funny than the joke itself. Tomorrow night the MFA will be presenting Drained - the second, and final, film in its short Brazilian Film Series.

What's that? You say you're an MFA member but didn't see this on the film calendar. Yep, "new shit has come to light." And, Houstonist is here to help you out.

Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2006 Rio de Janiero Film Festival and a 2007 Sundance Film Festival selection, Drained is the story of a pawn shop owner and his obsessions.

Putting a refreshing Brazilian spin on the traditional literary anti-hero...obsessed with his office´s backed-up drain—and a young waitress. He browbeats customers, alienates friends, and tests the limits of the acceptable in a comedy that dares to look at the perversity and madness found within everyone.
Beware. Drained is presented in Portugese with English subtitles so bring your glasses.
