Into art? How about dance? You like music? Theater? Have a thing for opera? Or maybe you just (pretend to) like “culture” in general to seem smart and hip and urban?
Want to impress a date while not knowing a damn thing about the previously mentioned subjects?
Boy, does Houstonist have a shindig for you.
Tonight brings us Culture Collision II, hosted by a fleet of Museum and Theatre District young professionals' groups, including the Alley Theatre’s 1st Act, Houston Downtown Alliance's Emerging Leaders, DiverseWorks' 3D, Houston Grand Opera’s Opening Nights, the Houston Symphony’s Wavelength, The Studio of the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, the MFAH’s Art Crowd, UPTUTS of the Theatre Under the Stars, NITESPA of the Society of the Performing Arts, and Houston Young People for the Arts. This year’s soiree is at DiverseWorks, one of Houstonist's most favoritist spacesists around for all-out edgy, enlightening, and entertaining culture. Several local vendors - including Cafe Annie, Ragin' Cajun, Gravitas, Dionysus Imports, and Silver Eagle Distributors (AKA Budweiser & Co.) - have already signed on for food and bev duty. Plus, there will be live performances by Two Star Symphony and a host of other artists.
Oh, and, in case you’ve been trapped under something heavy, DiverseWorks is a crazy-cool art space just north of downtown in the warehouse-y area behind UHD. This org will forever be in our hearts for bringing the Rude Mechanicals’ live action of Get Your War On to Houston last year. But, we digress...
So, go to Culture Collision II to support the arts…go to support Houston’s burgeoning cultural scene…go to support DiverseWorks…go to support yourself by impressing a date or astounding and amazing your friends with all of the cool stuff you’ll learn while quenching your thirst with cocktails. Just go! We, dear loyal Houstonist readers, will be there.
PLEASE NOTE - we were wrong about the free cocktails...it's a cash bar. Boo. But, it will still be a great event and we will still be there! Hope to see you there, too.

After the event, if you're really in it to win it, stick around for the opening night performance at DiverseWorks of Hawaiian-born Keo Wolford's "I Land" telling his American story of unromantic realities of growing up in "paradise" through spoken word, hula, and a bit of hip-hop. (Tickets for the Wolford performance after Culture Collision II can be purchased in advance for $10 by contacting shawna@diverseworks.org)
