The party is at Rudyard’s tomorrow – you know - THE party. The Black Math Experiment’s CD Release Party for “All You Need is Blood”, at which a couple of other bands will be performing. La Sed will bring some progressive rock courtesy of Puerto Rico and Mk Ultra adds politically-minded psychedelic punk to the mix (political as in the song writing may focus on fighting military culture and the 9/11 conspiracy). This should be pretty exciting, different, energy infused and just damned entertaining, what with a toilet paper cannon and inflatable penguins incorporated into the stage performance (no lie peeps). Now, more information on Black Math Experiment – since the name surely intrigues you as much as it did us.
“Crazy Pop! Not like the N’Sync”, is the description on their myspace page, and we have been listening to their CD’s, it fits. The irreverent lyrics and a sound reminiscent of ‘80’s synth pop are infectious so the party should be a blast. Formed by Bill Curtner in 2004, The Black Math Experiment bounded onto Houston’s local music scene December 18th at Helios. A little ditty called “You Cannot Kill David Arquette”, from 2005’s “Fake Words and Signs From Space”, brought them notoriety and lent itself to new stage props, and more. Not only did the song get David Arquette's attention, he sent them a box of gourmet cupcakes and a thank you. Since, he has done the occasional promotion - even giving them props during an interview on MTV's Total Request Live.
This past March, Arquette was in Houston and joined the band on stage during a show at The Proletariat. The "love affair" doesn't end yet, though. The song will be on the DVD release of Arquette's movie, The Tripper, which will be released on October 23rd. Further, BME will soon receive the "Ultimate Tripper Fan" contest prize, a "tricked-out-in-full-on-hippy-glory" 1969 Ford Econoline van (hey! Fun truckin'!). Yep David Arquette's van, which they'll be using to tour - kickass! So, now that we have given you a glossy, surface look at The Black Math Experiment, you really must head to Rudyard's Pub on Saturday, the action starts at 9:00 p.m. (go early, the food is yummy!) and the cover charge should be about $7, well, maybe $5 - oh heck, it won't be more than say $9.99 - it's a bargain at any rate. Yo, and buy the CD - actually, buy them all! We cannot make the party, but, we are accepting diagrams and suggestions for the construction of a toilet paper cannon, or a really good potato gun, send them here).
