::Inprint Brown Reading Series - Richard Powers & Jennifer Egan::

10.1507_powers.jpgFor the 27th year, Inprint presents one of the finest reading series in the country, giving Houstonians a chance to hear from and meet some of the world’s leading writers.

From September through April, 14 renowned authors will come to Houston, many for the first time, sharing their work and insights. These authors’ works address pressing contemporary issues, taking us on a journey around the globe and giving us a literary lens through which to see the world.

All readings begin at 7:30 p.m. (doors open 6:45). Selected readings will feature on-stage interviews. All readings will be followed by a book sale and signing, run by Brazos Bookstore.

Monday, October 15: Richard Powers & Jennifer Egan

Richard Powers' masterful plots combine contemporary issues with aspects of science, medicine, technology, and the arts.

John Leonard in Harper’s Magazine says, “Richard Powers has been astounding us almost every other year since 1985. . . . We can no longer be surprised at whatever he dares to think in ink about.”

101507_eagan.jpgPowers, a recipient of a MacArthur Foundation “genius” fellowship, is the author of nine novels, including The Gold Bug Variations, Operation Wandering Soul, The Time of Our Singing, and his most recent, The Echo Makers, winner of the 2006 National Book Award, which Booklist describes as “a remarkable novel from one of our greatest novelists, and a book that will change all who read it.”

Jennifer Egan, “one of the most gifted writers of her generation” (Seattle Post-Intelligencer), is the author of the novels The Invisible Circus, Look at Me (a National Book Award finalist), and her most recent, The Keep, as well as the story collection Emerald City.

Madison Smart Bell describes The Keep as “prodigiously entertaining and profoundly moving,” and The Washington Post says “Egan is an exceptionally intelligent writer whose joy at appropriating and subverting genres and clichés—from prison memoir to gothic ghost story—is evident on every dizzying inventive page.”
