There's absolutely no question in our minds that Houstonist readers have amazing skills when it comes to ye olde shutter box. And although we'd love to hoard your talent under our beds and keep it for ourselves for a rainy day (which will be, um, tomorrow), we know your talent deserves more exposure than that. But you can't blame us for trying.
That's why we want to be sure that you know to enter the Houston Center for Photography's 2008 Fellowship Competition. Hooray for contests! Not one, but TWO fellowship recipients will be awarded $2,000 each, with one Houston-based artist designated as a recipient of the Carol Crow Memorial Fellowship. And no matter who is designated what, everyone's a winner - each will have a solo exhibition at HCP in the summer of 2008.
Photographers, you tell us - how awesome is that?
The Fellowship competition is geared towards the completion and presentation of new work, although submissions of works-in-progress are acceptable. The competition is open to all photographic, film/video, and lens-based work. One fellowship will be awarded to an artist residing within a 100-mile radius of Houston (including the Beaumont, Galveston, and College Station areas). A second fellowship will be awarded to an artist living anywhere in the U.S. or abroad.
What's the catch, you ask? Your submissions must be hand-delivered or e-mailed by Monday, October 22. Since it's already been proven that Houstonist-devouring clickers have got what it takes, start snappin'! If you need more details, the Houston Center for Photography's got all the answers.
And hey, you know, good luck.
